Terang P12 College – A D.I.Y culture with a difference

We were standing in pit lane at last year’s Energy Breakthrough event and we noticed something unique. It was Terang College’s vehicle they had built themselves. The project was designed and led by then Year 11 student Harrison Smith for his Year 12 Product Design and Technology project. With the support of his teammates, they brought this new creation to life and learnt plenty along the way, too. We caught up with the team at Terang College to get the inside story.

Vale Frank Ryan – Announcer, environmental educator, change-agent and the reason we have ‘Eye of the Tiger’ as our anthem

The Energy Breakthrough has lost a legend with the recent passing of Frank Ryan due to illness. Announcer, environmental educator and change-agent, Frank would be remembered by many for his up-front work on stage at our event. Oh, and through a joke he is responsible for our anthem: The Eye of the Tiger.

Energy Breakthrough starts a new era … without the RACV

After 26 years, the RACV has decided to withdraw from the Energy Breakthrough. The Energy Breakthrough will continue in 2018 and beyond. The Central Goldfields Shire Council (CGSC) and the Country Education Partnership (CEP) are proud of the Energy Breakthrough and how it has evolved with the support of the RACV. ‘Man of Steele’ wins Commonwealth Gold in Men’s Road Race with a broken back

Past Energy Breakthrough participant, Steele Von Hoff, has sprinted to victory in the 2018 Commonwealth Games Men's Cycling Road Race! This extraordinary feat is even more amazing given it was just seven weeks ago that Steele broke four vertebrae in a training event. His recovery was sped up by cycling on a human powered vehicle (HPV) at his home in Mornington as the position was highly supportive for his fragile back and neck. Channel 7 interviewer, Sam Lane, nicknamed him the 'Man of Steele' for his heroic effort on Saturday on the Gold Coast.

White Hills PS wows with one-two finish in the HPV Primary Trial

From Trial positions 4th and 26th in 2016 to 1st and 2nd in 2017, White Hills Primary School's leap up the order has been remarkable. They are the first school to go 1-2 in a Trial since South Australian powerhouse Aberfoyle Hub PS way back in 2001. We caught up with Team Manager, Roger Byron, to hear how his students pulled it off during a highly competitive Trial and also ask him about missing out on 'Overall' Class honours.
