2018 Volunteers: Recruitment drive hits top gear with Briefing sessions planned

With spring arriving, NOW is the time to start assembling our 2018 volunteer army as our recruitment drive hits top gear. We need 700 people to volunteer to help make the Energy Breakthrough memorable, fun and safe. This year, we'll be holding online briefing sessions to help prospective and past volunteers better understand their role.

Vale Frank Ryan – Announcer, environmental educator, change-agent and the reason we have ‘Eye of the Tiger’ as our anthem

The Energy Breakthrough has lost a legend with the recent passing of Frank Ryan due to illness. Announcer, environmental educator and change-agent, Frank would be remembered by many for his up-front work on stage at our event. Oh, and through a joke he is responsible for our anthem: The Eye of the Tiger.

Join the War on Waste

One aim of the Energy Breakthrough program is to encourage participants to examine and use the latest technology while considering its impact on the environment and the way people live locally and globally. The ABC's War on Waste offers a great vehicle for kids and adults alike - in schools, homes and businesses - to do just that. Will you join the War On Waste? Have you already joined? What is your school doing to be sustainable? Let us know in the comments or online on our Facebook page >

Meet your new lead scrutineers: Michael McTigue and Tim White

The departure of our naming rights partner, the RACV, has presented the Energy Breakthrough with many changes and opportunities. One of the key roles that the RACV team performed was the development and implementation of the technical specifications of the human powered (HPV) and energy efficient vehicles (EEV). Today, we are pleased to introduce to you our two new Lead Scrutineers: Michael McTigue (pictured left) and Tim White (pictured right).

Energy Breakthrough starts a new era … without the RACV

After 26 years, the RACV has decided to withdraw from the Energy Breakthrough. The Energy Breakthrough will continue in 2018 and beyond. The Central Goldfields Shire Council (CGSC) and the Country Education Partnership (CEP) are proud of the Energy Breakthrough and how it has evolved with the support of the RACV. The CGSC and the CEP remain committed to this outstanding education program and look forward to the next phase of its development.

‘Man of Steele’ wins Commonwealth Gold in Men’s Road Race with a broken back

Past Energy Breakthrough participant, Steele Von Hoff, has sprinted to victory in the 2018 Commonwealth Games Men's Cycling Road Race! This extraordinary feat is even more amazing given it was just seven weeks ago that Steele broke four vertebrae in a training event. His recovery was sped up by cycling on a human powered vehicle (HPV) at his home in Mornington as the position was highly supportive for his fragile back and neck. Channel 7 interviewer, Sam Lane, nicknamed him the 'Man of Steele' for his heroic effort on Saturday on the Gold Coast.
