The UniSA Australian HPV Super Series is expanding in 2014 with the inclusion of a new 6 hour race to be held on a street circuit in Loxton, a thriving community in the Riverland of SA. The race will be conducted on Sunday 4 May utilising the main street of the town.
HPV racing is a spectacular fast paced activity with teams ranging from year 6 to adults competing together riding single seat recumbent fully faired trikes. Speeds in excess of 60kmh are normal and the racing is close with upward of 100 vehicles on the track at the same time.
The teams competing are predominantly school based and race in 4 different categories.
- Category 1 (Primary) is for students in years 6 & 7 and a team can have up to 20 riders.
- Category 2 (Junior Secondary) is for riders under the age of 16 and are allowed up to 14 riders per team.
- Category 3 (Senior Secondary) is for riders under the age of 19 and are allowed up to 12 riders per team and
- Category 4 (Open) is for riders 19 years and over.
Safety is a major element of the competition and every vehicle competing must pass Scrutineering to take part in the event. Scrutineering is conducted on the Saturday prior to race day. The Race will commence at 10am and conclude at 4pm.
