For this year’s Yarrawonga College teams, being a part of the 2017 RACV Energy Breakthrough is all that little more special.
They are racing in loving memory of their friend Lilly Toms. Lilly was a Yarrawonga College P-12 student who was diagnosed with B-cell Leukemia in late 2016 and sadly passed away in August this year.
Lilly’s Energy Breakthrough Journey
Lilly started attending the Energy Breakthrough when she was in Grade 5 and a member of the pushcarts team.
2017 would of marked Lilly’s sixth year competing. She loved the preparation in the lead up to the event, racing and more importantly – she loved competing and creating memories with her friends.
In Her Memory
“To race for Lilly is to show her that we loved her very much”
Lilly is the reason the team found the drive to attend this year’s event. She wanted to come and cheer her team on even though she was unwell and confined to a wheelchair. Unfortunately, Doctors advised that it wasn’t ideal for her attend, but the team promised to bring her back photos and videos.
Sadly, Lilly lost her battle with the disease in August this year.
The students still wanted to race for her, and keep her memory alive.
Emotions were certainly running high between both teams on Saturday afternoon.
Lilly’s Legacy and Lilly’s Rockets were named in honour of their friend, and the two teams are competing in the TRYathlon and HPV Secondary divisions, respectively.
Not only are they are racing for Lilly – they truly believe that she is racing right alongside them.
Beautiful and inspiring, congratulations on achieving your dreams and Lilly’s – to attend and compete at EB. memories are forever.
