In just two months time, the RACV Energy Breakthrough will commence, as more than 6000 students descend upon the Victorian township of Maryborough.
It was a similar story in Queensland’s coastal town of Maryborough last weekend as they held the annual RACQ Technology Challenge.
Every September since 2002, the program reaches out across to primary and secondary schools, to encourage and promote technology, design, innovation and fitness in an engaging and fun event.
In 2013, over 2,000 students from schools throughout Queensland raced human powered vehicles, smilie pushcarts, CO2 Dragsters, solar boats and cars for four state titles.
Modeled on our own RACV Energy Breakthrough, the signature event saw 119 HPV teams racing around the CBD area of Maryborough, with all the fast paced action we love to see.
Ormeau Woods State High School’s ‘Eagles Senior’ clocked up 480 laps (approximately 720kms at an average speed of 30kmh) and took the overall line honours and the Open Boys HPV category.
Gladstone State High School’s ‘Tigers’ took the Open Girls title, and St Marys College’s ‘Synergy Racing’ won the Open Mixed category.

Event Co-ordinator, Kim Griffith was delighted with the outcome of the event, and said that “the participation by everybody involved was fantastic to see”.
“Our event just has a ‘warm buzz’ and the energy from everyone is what was most pleasing.”
