Welcome to 2023! We hope that the buzz of being back at school and into the swing of things. We wanted to share a quick update for schools about this year’s Energy Breakthrough program including categories of entry, entry open and closing dates and our new Team Manager Hub.
Categories of Entry
What type of entry can you prepare for Energy Breakthrough 2023?
- Robotics
- Junkyard Challenge
- Pushcarts
- Human Powered Vehicles (HPV)
- Energy Efficient Vehicles (EEV)
- Electric Only
- Pedal + Electric
This year sees the end of petrol powered hybrid vehicles as part of our Energy Efficient Vehicle program as we continue our march towards energy efficiency and being a truly green grand prix! Therefore, no petrol powered vehicles will be permitted as part of our event.
Robotics was featured as a demonstration event at the 2022 event with four schools participating with four teams. As it was considered successful, Robotics is planned to be offered to ALL schools in 2023.
The Human Powered Vehicle (HPVs) section includes those participating in the Primary, Secondary and TRYathlon categories.
Test N Tune Day
Also a quick reminder that our ‘Test and Tune Day’ is coming up soon in Bendigo on Friday 10 March.

Entries open and close dates, event date
We are putting together final touches of the new entry process through the new myEB online portal (https://my.eb.org.au/).
Entries Open:
HPV Primary: 8am Monday 20th March 2023
HPV Secondary and EEV: 8am Tuesday 21st March 2023
Pushcarts & Junkyard Challenge and Robotics: 8am Wednesday 22nd March 2023
Entries Close:
HPV, Try-athlon, EEVs: Friday 30th June, 2023 (Last Day of Term 2 – Victoria)
Pushcarts, Junkyard Challenge and Robotics: Friday 15 September, 2023 (Last Day of Term 3 – Victoria)
Event Dates
A reminder that the Energy Breakthrough event will be held in Maryborough, Victoria from Wednesday 22 November to Sunday 26 November 2023. Pop these dates in your diary now!
Team Manager Hub
We’re also compiling all of the key information that leading teachers and Team Managers need to know on one web page called the ‘Team Managers Hub‘.
The Team Manager Hub has been developed to assist new and existing schools from the beginning to the end their Energy Breakthrough journey. More resources will be added to this page over the coming weeks, months and years. If you have any suggestions on what you’d like to see added to this page, please contact us.
